SCIENCE EXTENSION

DR ANDREW EATON
In Science Extension, students learn about the nuts and bolts of how science research works in the real world and must undertake a Science Research Project. They must choose a viable topic in an area that inspires them, overcoming all sorts of hurdles that arise, just like in real scientific research. This year students chose a variety of topics: Chloe modelled ocean acidification; Jazmin extracted DNA from fungi; Tanya searched for a genetic link between taste and smell; Catherine explored the chemistry of glowsticks and Sanya examined the antimicrobial characteristics of native plants. They all did a great job, with some nominated for the Young Scientist awards. Congratulations to all of the students!
