INDUSTRIAL TECHNOLOGY FURNISHING

MR SHANE SMILTNIEKS
The Major Design Project involves students researching and designing an appropriate piece of furniture for themselves or their family and then constructing it whilst maintaining production records and finally using evaluation skills to assess their final product. Students generally work with timber, whether it be manufactured board or solid, as the main component of the item but may introduce other materials for example steel, glass, fabric or brass to name but a few. During the Preliminary course, students develop a range of hand skills and gain experience with industrial processes and then in the HSC course are able to select and use those skills and knowledge appropriate to their selected project.
The students relate the techniques and technologies used in industrial and commercial settings to those used in the development of design projects. Students develop prototypes before settling on a final design, and once completed they must evaluate their final product based on their own criteria of success.
Congratulations to Year 12 2021 on successfully completing Year 12! I am incredibly proud of your sustained efforts over the year, given the extremely difficult and uncertain nature of the year we have had to produce such a diverse range of high-quality projects. I wish you all the very best in your future and hope that you stay in touch.
